Teens from West-Ark Church of Christ worked hand-in-hand with some of the young people from The Way, "a new congregation developed through the inner city ministry of the West-Ark church." The teens spent the week in service to others. David Boozer and Brad Pistole coordinated the efforts to serve the needy in our area. The week ended with a BANG as the teens from West-Ark hosted the teens from The Way on a trip out of town they will never forget.
We worked on a project for the needy in our area on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 9:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. each day. Some painting and building was involved. Then, they took a short trip together on Friday/Saturday that involved food, fun, and fellowship. The trip at the end of the week was free to all work camp participants.
Saturday Morning (8:00 a.m.), June 28, 2003
We just returned from a successful week of workcamp with 30 teens from West-Ark and The Way. We completely painted (inside and out) a house for one of the families at The Way. We also helped them move in Thursday afternoon. They have 8 children living with a single mother and one more is on the way. Three of the kids from this family helped paint the house and ended the week by coming with us for the campout last night.
I am so proud of our teens from West-Ark. They jumped right into the lives of the kids we met this week. They have quickly become good friends. Last night about midnight as we were singing around the campfire, our teens shared in a devotional about all they learned this week. They mentioned team work, service, helping others, etc. The teens were so excited to be together and share in their new relationships that they never went to bed. They stayed up till sunrise this morning.
We met two other young men as a result of workcamp and they came with us for the weekend. We pray that the kids from The Way can continue to make contact with them and introduce them to regular Bible study and worship services.
We plan to continue to take part in the work at The Way. The West-Ark teens will host them on July 13th and teach their evening Bible class. Please continue to pray for the success of both groups. We may meet in different buildings and come from different backgrounds, but our kids learned this week that we are brothers and sisters in Christ and we are all serving and following the same Lord. Praise God for all He chose to do through us this week.
