During Vacation Bible School 2005, "Creation of Christ's Church", we focused on early Acts. Our daily lessons and dramas were centered around stories about the Holy Spirit, the Day of Pentecost, Ananias and Sapphira, Stephen, and Saul's conversion.
Each day we had approximately 200 children who were divided into 14 different family units. In their families, named after the 12 tribes of Israel and "Little Dan" and "Little Gad," they studied various lessons, learned songs about the lessons, and spent time in the marketplace each day.
The marketplace consisted of 10 different shops and the synagogue. The kids learned about making pottery, bread, rope, carpentary, sandals, jewelry, spices, etc. They also learned how to write in Hebrew and Greek while in the synagogue.
It was a great week that concluded with a big celebration and meal on Thursday night. Our children brought their parents and grandparents with them for a night that focused on what they had been learning all week. We had several visitors on Thursday night. As a result, one mother of a 5-year-old who had attended VBS all week asked to talk with our preacher and she was baptized two days later after our Sunday morning service. Another young man who attended VBS all week requested to be picked up on our weekly bus route. He introduced his mother to our Hispanic minister, Oscar Nolasco, and she has started attending services with Iglesia de Cristo, the Hispanic congregation.
We praise God for a great week of Vacation Bible School!
